Description

Le NDI est composé de 5 items dérivés de l'ODQ et de 5 items identifiés à partir de feedback de praticiens, de patients et d'une revue de la littérature. Les items explorent l'intensité de la douleur, les soins personnels, le fait de soulever des charges, la lecture, les maux de tête, la concentration, le travail, la conduite, le sommeil et les loisirs.

Ces dix items sont évalués selon une échelle de Likert en six points de 0 (aucun handicap) à 5 (handicap total), et le score total varie de 0 à 50 points.¹ ² ³ ⁵ ⁶

Interprétation

Le score total du NDI varie de 0 à 50, où 0 est considéré comme "aucune limitation d'activité" et 50 est considéré comme un "handicap complet". Certains évaluateurs choisissent d'attribuer un score sur 100%, en particulier comme stratégie pour traiter les questions laissées sans réponse. Toutefois, si 3 items ou plus sont manquants, le score global peut être invalide.¹ ² ³

Sans concensus, on peut classer les scores selon 5 catégories :

0 à 4 (0-8%)= aucune incapacité ;

5 à 14 (10–28%) = handicap léger ;

15 à 24 (30-48%) = handicap modéré ;

25 à 34 (50- 64%) = handicap sévère ;

Plus de 35 (70-100%) = handicap complet.¹ ⁴

Valeur clinique

Le NDI est un outil efficace, fiable et valide pour l'évaluation de la douleur et du handicap des pathologies du cou.¹ ² ³ ⁵ ⁶

La version française du NDI a été validée en 2002. Sa valeur test-retest est excellente (ICC = 0.93) et sa corrélation avec les autres échelles algofonctionnelles est bonne (r = 0.793).³
