Jane Rooney, Physiotherapist and Clinical Director

About

Dr. Jane Rooney is a Specialist Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2009) and a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (1997), with a specific focus on the knee.

Jane has extensive experience in sports medicine across both Europe and Australia and serves as the Clinical Director of the Prahran Sports Medicine Centre. Her clinical interests include ACL rehabilitation and injury prevention programs, patellar instability, patellofemoral pain, and knee osteoarthritis management programs.

In 2016, Jane was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to study contemporary management algorithms and conservative treatment programs for anterior cruciate ligament injuries, traveling throughout Europe, Scandinavia, and North America.

Jane works closely with many of Melbourne’s leading knee surgeons and sports physicians and is currently involved in several ACL research projects, including shared decision-making for ACL injury management and a bracing protocol for native ACL healing. Jane enjoys the challenge of working with athletes of all levels, from recreational and school-level participants to state, national, and international competitors. She is passionate about education and is the sole director of Physio Educators, which provides online courses and masterclasses in collaboration with the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

Jane is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Swinburne University, an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne, a guest lecturer and post-doctoral mentor at La Trobe University, an examiner and facilitator for the Australian College of Physiotherapists, and a regular presenter for numerous APA courses.
